What to expect
The goal of our program is to help our students develop skills which will not only help you with your horsemanship, but beyond the world of horses into your daily life. Training horses, especially horses with past trauma, requires patience, understanding and introspection, which is often missing from our daily lives. Horses present an honest reflection of what you are bringing to every interaction. This allows you to see yourself as you are in the moment. By developing a sensitivity to this bias-free reaction, you can begin to work thoughtfully and with consideration for you and your horse’s needs.
This is a unique training experience open to students of all levels including beginners, aged eighteen and over. With the guidance and assistance of head trainer Chezz Perlini, you will get to observe and participate in the training of a variety of horses, including green colts, abused and challenging horses, including rescues, American Mustangs and other uniquely American breeds, and “failed” or “problem” performance horses.
Classes are designed for a maximum of five students and cover the fundamentals of natural horsemanship from haltering and leading to safe groundwork, riding, seat placement, body control and critical evaluation of horse and student with progression to advanced maneuvers. There is ample opportunity to ride, but it is not required. Keeping the groups small ensures that each student gets a rich, personalized experience with opportunities to build on existing knowledge. Students will work in the western tradition with opportunities to learn roping, handle livestock and make equipment such as bridles, belts, halters and more.
Classes are five days a week with approximately five to six hours of horse work per day including theory lessons, trail rides, horse-games, group discussions and guest speakers. You will have evenings and weekends to yourself, to relax, visit local attractions or enjoy the Florida sun. For those interested, there are always additional horse-related activities at the Ranch, such as lessons and clinics. You train and relax at your own pace!
